Mississippi River Re-Introduction into Bayou Lafourche, Pumping Capacity Improvements

The Mississippi River Re-Introduction into Bayou Lafourche, Pumping Capacity Improvements Project is an environmental effort to increase the capacity of the current Donaldsonville pump station on the Mississippi River. By increasing this station to a minimum flow capacity of 1000 cubic feet per second (cfs), it will protect the drinking water supply for nearly 300,000 residents and benefit the coastal marshes in the Bayou Lafourche flow area.

The current capacity of the station is approximately 300 cfs and through this effort the current station will be improved. This project is being administered by the Bayou Lafourche Freshwater District (BLFWD) utilizing various sources of funding. BLFWD has hired the team of Stantec, Tetra Tech, Delta Coast Consultants, Baird, and Ardamen to accomplish this work. Delta Coast Consultants will provide the team with site and civil design services, lead the environmental and regulatory process, accomplish all surveying tasks, and coordinate efforts between the client and the agencies involved in bringing this work to construction. The project is a part of the Louisiana State Coastal Master Plan and has recently seen several projects to improve the hydraulics of the bayou to accommodate this additional flow and deliver nutrients to communities that desperately depend on it.
