Emergency Response to Hurricane Ida – Side Scan Sonar Survey Inspection of Docks in Fourchon

The purpose of this project was to perform an emergency side scan sonar and bathymetric survey of 2 slips in Fourchon to determine water depths and to look for storm debris underwater near the client’s docks so that they could determine whether it was safe to dock their vessels to resume operations of transporting drilling fluids to their clients in the Gulf of Mexico. During the survey we discovered a conex box underwater right next to the dock that was standing upright only a few feet below the surface of the water. Our side scan sonar also indicated other storm related debris resting on the seafloor. Drawings were prepared showing plan views of the side scan imagery, areas that were safe for mooring and coordinates of the sonar contacts (hazards).
